Re: Frédéric Chopin
I am uncertain where we would stand on Urtext editions and will need to look into this. Although Chopin is well and truly outside of copyright, a publisher could argue that they have made editorial changes and as such, some legal protection covers their publications [otherwise why would they bother].
In the meanwhile I would ask members not to post Urtext editions on Pianophilia until the matter is resolved.
Many thanks
Malcolm

Re: Frédéric Chopin
Quoted from imslp:
"Urtext Editions
* In Canada, "Scientific" or "Urtext" editions (where the editor(s) made no significant contributions in an effort to replicate the author's intentions) receive no copyright protection. However,
* In the EU, Urtext editions get up to 30 years of copyright protection after publication. IMSLP voluntarily observes this rule for 25 years as a courtesy to publishers.
* In the US, Urtext editions are theoretically protected like any other work. However, many have come into the public domain due to failure to renew, give proper notice, etc. If you are not sure about the US copyright status of an urtext edition, please post on the forums."
"Urtext or Critical Editions
The EU, and others, have special provisions for a limited copyright term (generally 25 years) for scholarly editions, including critical, urtext, or "scientific" editions (Bärenreiter, etc). It is unlikely that this type of edition, apart from text passages, contains sufficient original material to qualify for copyright status in Canada. However, out of caution, IMSLP voluntarily prohibits the posting of critical or urtext editions published less than 25 years ago, with the exception of those issued by government entities (such as the USSR)."

Re: Frédéric Chopin
A good way to make money(?):
Start a business and sell high-quality pdf files:
for example of Chopin editions by Friedman (Breitkopf), Scholz-Pozniak (Peters) and Ekier (PWM)
or
Scriabin editions by Philipp (Peters)
or
Debussy editions by Klemm (Peters)
or
Ravel editions by Bricard (Alfred)
Any copyright infringements with that????????

This is not the place for this discussion. If we're going to limit ourselves to sharing scores according to the same standards as IMSLP, then I'll remove all the Urtext scores I have posted. But this is a decision of the moderator, not you, Alfor.

You are perfectly right. I am not a moderator of this forum. You may post whatever you like - it is none of my business.Dannen wrote:This is not the place for this discussion. Re: Frédéric Chopin
Apologies, have been away on business. As Alfor has clarified, Urtext is covered by a reduced copyright term [30 years] and we must be careful in future when posting on Pianophilia. I am happy at this stage to leave previous Urtext postings [somewhat a bit late to remove them now], but grateful to members to observe this in future.
If any member wishes to make a posting of a score but are unsure of the copyright issue, then I am always happy for people to contact me and I will advise.

Frugatta 24 Esercizii preparatorii ai 24 Studii di Chopin
I have an old, yellow and torn book by Giuseppe Frugatta who made 24 studies on the 24 Etudes of Chopin.
These are the Chopin etudes a bit simplified (but still very difficult).
I'm not good in scanning, that's why the 50 pages together are 151 MB!
I have uploaded the folder to Mediafire.
Maybe someone can put them in a decent file.
Greetings, kroket

Re: Frugatta 24 Esercizii preparatorii ai 24 Studii di Chopi
I don't think it is simplified Chopin, these presents different problem altogether, even though the figuration is similar or identical. But changing the tonality, for example, 10/4 the problem is significantly different.kroket wrote:I have an old, yellow and torn book by Giuseppe Frugatta who made 24 studies on the 24 Etudes of Chopin.

Mere sight reading, I had an impression that some may even be mor difficult, eg 10/11, even though the length is shorter.
I think it is a very useful exercise book, and certainly support someone to combine them into a reduced PDF.
I am only free after 15 sep, and in no one does it, I shall try.
