Hello All,
Rob, Heinz Joachim Vieweg is a completely new name to me - seems to be a competent and pianistic composer too - Do you know any more about him - any other compositions etc.?
In the meantime here is another Mary Lou:
regards,
tobyjj

Here's the music to the fox trot edition of Nola. I also posted 3 photos of the interior of The Arcade where Sam Fox's offices were located. The first picture is from around 1900. As I recall from the old directories, Sam Fox's offices were on the 2nd level (which would be the level above the piano store on the lower left). The other 2 pictures are from the mid-2000's. I hope, if you have time, that you will all take a look at the photos because this is an absolutely gorgeous building!
Tobyjj,
Thanks for your latest upload! You have a treasure trove of music.
I wish I could tell you more about Vieweg, but I don't know anything else about him. If he wrote more pieces (and one would think he did--I'm unaware of them). I thought that this was probably rare, so I wanted to upload it early on.
Oh, I've scanned the next version of Nola and just need to make a PDF--maybe it will already be there by the time you see this.

Best to everyone,
Rob

Here's the solo saxophone with piano accompaniment version of Nola. The music for the saxophone is printed on a removable 4 pg. section (the first page is blank-hence not scanned, the second 2 pages are the score and the last pg. is the saxophone folio ad.). This piece was arranged by Zamecnik, who was Sam Fox's in-house composer and arranger.
Enjoy!
Rob

Hello All,
Thanks Rob, - actually the Nola fox-trot edition was requested by someone (i.e. me), albeit in a somewhat elliptical manner. I shall have to be more direct in future ! For my part you can safely assume that if I say I don't have a piece I would probably like to acquire it !
Thanks for posting it. The same goes for the 4H version ,(which I haven't yet had time to determine if I already own). Free time and lack of organisation are against me ! I'll try and find one of the back pages of other sheet music in which I noticed the song version of Nola being advertised. When I find it I'll scan and post.
One of the pieces advertised on the back of your fox-trot version of Nola is "The Water Bug" by Walter Miles. I think I have this piece somewhere - I will add it to my list of things to search out from the piles. (I would not have made a good librarian.)
The Superior Arcade photos are interesting. The layout reminds me, (though my memory is sometimes suspect), of the Gum Department store in Moscow. That was a lot shabbier, though. Your building has been superbly maintained. I imagine it must be a 'heritage' site or government protected building with correspondingly high maintenance obligations on owners and tenants.
Zamecnic's name crops ups - I have always been interested in this composer. I don't have anything of his that I would describe as outstanding - I have his silent movie stuff and a few songs and (thanks to Frank) a photocopy of "Polly" . I have always had a nagging feeling though that he must have written some memorable piano solos which are buried or lost for ever.
Regards,
tobyjj

Tobyjj,
Thanks for the new posting, it's cool that you have so much of her work.
Actually, you made it quite clear that you desired the fox-trot. I was the one who was (inadvertently) unclear. When I wrote: "Although no one requested it, I'm posting 3 pictures..." "it" was meant to refer to the pictures, not the fox-trot. My apologies. (I've since gone back and edited my wording.) And, so glad you enjoyed the photos! I think (though am not positive off the top of my head) that it is an historical landmark.
Talk to you soon,
Rob

Hello All,
Here's another Mary Scruggs / Winn piece.
Actually, considering her prolific output, I have a very meagre amount of her material.
When I run out of posting material, perhaps someone can take up the thread and fill in some gaps.

Many thanks for your latest posting! I didn't realize Mary Lou Williams was so prolific.
My apologies for this taking longer than anticipated. All my older acquisitions are very organized and this wasn't in its place. Then, I realized that I have about a 4 inch stack of things on a shelf to "midify" (a Dutch friend made up that word--my wife & I love it

I totally agree with your assessment of Zamecnik (who arranged this duet for Arndt). I've always expected to find some great original work by him but never have--maybe someday!
Oh, in my original post (text since edited) I wrote I had a Nola duet and an arrangement for four hands--they are one and the same (I'd meant to write the arr. for sax & piano instead of "four hands").
Best,
Rob

Hello All,
As suspected, not many takers for the last Mary Lou posting.
Here's a collaboration of hers -
