Re: Piano Transcriptions for two hands
Especially for M. K.
Hopefully these Russian composers will need little introduction, although the transcribers may be new to some:
Theodore Jadoul (1948 - ?) - seems hard to find much about this person beyond that he transcribed a number of works including some by Borodin, and including these two songs.
Borodin - The Sleeping Princess for voice & piano (1867 orchestrated by Rimsky-Korsakov 1904). Arr. piano solo by Jadoul. Borodin - The Sea for voice & piano (1870 - orchestrated by Rimsky-Korsakov 1906). Arr. piano solo by Jadoul. Matvei Iosifovich Nikolaevsky. Born 1882, Moscow: died 1942, Kuybyshev. Russian Composer. Graduated 1902 from Moscow Conservatoire, after piano studies with Shishkin, and composition with Vasilenko, Ilinsky and Ippolitov-Ivanov. In 1904-1905 he took further lessons on counterpoint with Taneyev. Toured extensively as a pianist. Wrote numerous text books on piano technique as well as a number of original works.
Arensky - Op 49 No. 5 Romance 'Was it so long ago, to enchanting strains' for voice & piano arr. piano solo by Nikolaevsky Malcolm

Re: Piano Transcriptions for two hands
Been away for so long, but never too late for a comeback, I'd daresay
.
I wonder if anyone knows of a piano 2-hands transcription (duh
) of Beethoven's Violin Sonata Op.12 No.2 first movement 'Allegro vivace'. I know Winkler did some of the Beethoven violin sonatas, but that one's certainly not on IMSLP, and I ignore if he ever arranged it along the other ones, like the 'Kreutzer'.
And, I know it's likely just a long shot, but what about a piano solo transcription of Brahms's Cello Sonata No.1 in E minor, 1st mov.?
Huge cheers in advance, and much love,

Theodore Jadoul, whose portrait can be seen here :
http://www.europeana.eu/portal/record/2 ... 06075.html
was a Belgian conductor from Liège, very active in promoting Russian music.
Borodin dedicated his Scherzo to him :

Re: Piano Transcriptions for two hands
Now that does really surprise me from Toccata.....but very pleased none the same. Curious to see what piano pieces they perform as in general he's not an easy guy to track down.

Re: Piano Transcriptions for two hands
There are a couple of new uploads on IMSLP which are quite
interesting, to me at least.
Firstly, Schumann's 4 Duets Op34 arranged for piano solo by
August Horn. Curiously, this file was put under the heading
'For Piano 4 Hands', so I corrected it yesterday.
Secondly, Spohr's Der Alchemist VS arranged by Ferdinand Spohr.
This nearly forgotten opera is famous for its Tristan chord in the
14th. number. The overture is splendid - it can be heard on YouTube,
and its piano solo transcription is at the start of the VS, of course.
This is the front cover of the VS with the white-on-black 'colour'
scheme reversed to save on printer ink, if anyone wants a
hard copy.
