One way to do it would be to add watermarks either at the time of scanning, or could be added post facto relatively easily with Acrobat. Or even some sort digital ownership information embedded into the file.fredbucket wrote:I am investigating means whereby I can identify the source of the scans (i.e. who is downloading them and supplying them to that site) and should I be able to do so (as I expect I will in the fullness of time) then that person can expect harsh treatment from me.

I think the idea of watermarks has been suggested before.
Personally, I like to see files which reflect as closely as possible the integrity
of the originally published scores. Also, embedded information, e.g. the
details contained in file properties, can usually be expunged.

Visible watermarks come in all shapes & sizes. My suggestion is for a SMALL watermark (like http://www.pianophilia.com) to be aligned vertically on each page, and small enough not to be intrusive for using the score. This is easy to imbed since all of these scores are basically image collections and not text. File details embedded within the PDF header are indeed trivial to remove and useless for this purpose, in fact I have to remove these to display on my monitor using MusicReader 4.0.Timtin wrote:I think the idea of watermarks has been suggested before.

Dear Fleubis - it's a thought, and it would interesting to see an
example file to make it clearer exactly what you had in mind.
As one who doesn't always limit uploads to just this site, might
I suggest that a more general watermark such as "Free pdf"
would irk any predatory paysites.

Anyone anywhere in the World can order copies from the BL, but regretfully this work is still Copyrighted in UK, so the BL would refuse.Emil Borisovich Sernov wrote: By the way, Can I order the copy of this work in my location(South Korea)?
If anybody know about this case, please let me know about it.
Thank you.

Here's a possibility of what the iSkySoft PDF editor can do right out of the box:Timtin wrote:Dear Fleubis - it's a thought, and it would interesting to see an

Thanks Fleubis for the sample. It'll be interesting to see if
anyone adopts your idea. (Think I'd include 'is' in the sentence!)
