Re: Hatches, Matches & Despatches
It seems awfully soon for this kind of article. Ordinarily one would accuse the paper of muckraking, but the article is written with considerable sympathy and at least a little understanding. It is all ineffably sad. If only Geoffrey had met someone who could have looked after him, loved him and nurtured him back to health and brilliance.davida march wrote:http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/st ... 47,00.html
Another article on Geoffrey Tozer, on which I have written a letter to The Australian. If it gets published I'll post it.

Whether your letter is published or not Helen, I would like to know how you feel about the newspaper's article.

Re: Hatches, Matches & Despatches
Thanks for letting us know. Robbins Landon was a most erudite and entertaining man having seen a few interviews & talk on the box over the years.davida march wrote:H C Robbins Landon (scholar) and Richard Meale (Australian composer) both passed away this week.

Richard Meale will be sadly missed. Always solid, well written and inventive, his music sometimes takes flight and becomes hauntingly beautiful: the Symphony from 1994 is a particularly fine example of his luminous orchestral writing. His operas, Voss (1985) after Patrick White, and the 1991 Mer de Glace are very significant additions to Australian opera. I hope there are pianists on here who have investigated his modernist piano piece Coruscations from the 1970s.
