Re: Alfor's Rarities
The only 15/8 I've seen is Skriabin's Prelude op11/14. It makes sense to be in 15/8 rather than 5/8 as the is the occasional 3/8+3/8+2/8+2/8+3/8+2/8 bar.
The band Toto have two instrumental tracks in unusual time signatures (well, unusual for popular music) - "Jack to the bone" partly in 7/8 and "Party in Simon's pants" in 17/8.

I really give my hat to you people, when i listen to this youtube music (if it can be called music at all), the last thing in my mind is to work out the meter.fleubis wrote:I think it's in 7/8Timtin wrote:Isn't this in 15/8?

And going back again and again, i cannot tell if it is 7/8 or 4/4.
You people are simply wonderful.

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Well, I wouldn't disagree with that!
Btw, I believe that some bits of Mike Oldfield's magnum opus are indeed in 15/8.
I wish I had the score here to check it properly.

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Dear Alfred,
As always I am greatly honored by your dedication of the Lamberg pieces to me!
Yet another unknown composer with a true melodic gift. Your likening his music to that of Schutt is certainly spot-on. You know how much I adore the truly good salon music, which I can happily play all day long! Thank you for once again for introducing us to this delightful composer!
All Best,
Frank

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Thank you for feedback!
Dedicated to Frankfleubis & all lovers of the 19th century:
Emil KRONKE (German composer, pianist, teacher, 1865-1938.
Pupil of Reinicke, Draeseke, Kirchner, Nicodé)
Suite für Pianoforte op. 147 Kronke's many piano works encompass salon-music, character pieces and works "in the old style". In this fine suite we find a Prelude, slightly reminiscent of the beginning of Saint-Saens' piano cto. No. 2, a virtuosic Courante "im alten Style", a short Minuetto with the cosy "folkiness" of a Dvorak tune, an Air in an unusual thick setting, a Gavotte with a charming middle section and a virtuosic Rigaudon with an unusal ending.

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Dear Alfred,
I love the KRONKE Suite! It is very well written and most effective. Everyone should feel as comfortable as I do in this full sounding, conservative 19th harmonic idiom, but with occasional surprises.
The suite form is very well represented and interesting to see the composers takes on the various dances (especially when compared to Bach).
Much fun to play through the various pieces today and hope everyone enjoys these as much as Frank and I do. I really like substantial pieces like this and you've really given us something to sink our teeth into. Thanks for this wonderful gem, Alfred.
