Re: Alfor's Rarities
And a little present for Daniel(a?):
Posted as an example of the early piano style of a forgotten composer,
though well remembered as far as his name is concerned:
Egon WELLESZ
Drei Klavierstücke op. 9 W. wrote some pretty nice late-romantic (!!!) music! Astonishing enough, this Mahler-sounding
Symphony (No. 1) was composed in 1945, when the composer was 60 years old!!

Re: Alfor's Rarities
It's Daniel
. And thank you so much for this lovely gift, Alfor. Wellesz music is very hard to find, and not easy to listen and please everyone but I find it rather interesting and exquisite in matters of rythm and use of exciting sonorities, wich at least to me, always sound very new or fresh as you may prefer to say.
If anyone also enjoys Wellesz, there's this great cd, who I believe has Wellesz entire output for piano, and where you can listen samples from this Opus 9, which I think is great by the way.

Re: Alfor's Rarities
The unknown composer (I was told that the correct British version of his name is "Stealwell"...):
Otto KLAUWELL (German composer, teacher, writer, 1851-1917)
Drei Klavierstücke für die linke Hand allein op. 34
1. Impromptu 2. Melodie 3. Scherzino
Drei Stücke in Kanonform op. 38 (Präludium, Scherzo und Romanze) Fine 19th century writing, influenced (as usually) by Mendelssohn and Schumann;
will please Frankfleubis & Co..

The unknown composer:
Friedrich ILLIG (Austrian composer???)
Am Grundlsee (Austria) op. 6 Praised by Romain Rolland in 1927, published in 1930.
Sophisticated late-romantic piano style, reminiscent of Unger and Mojsisovics, but more advanced.

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Thanks for all the Michalowski - a real pleasure to play through them. I'm trying to get a little Polish programme together and these will fit in just fine, thanks. Talking of influences does anyone else notice a similarity between the Prelude op33/2 and Rakhmaninov op23/6?
