Re: Alfor's Rarities
Dear Alfred, I have remained frustratingly silent on your recent postings of MICHALOWSKI (and several others) as I am still awaiting for my printer to be repaired so I can print & play these wonderful pieces. I, too, hear a slight Scriabin influence, but the composer retains his own voice. These delicate miniatures are truly delightful finds. Today I balanced my laptop on my music desk to play through these gems. Thanks for posting these.

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Question: Michalowski was 21 years Scriabin's senior. Are we certain that Scriabin influenced him and not the other way around?

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Exactly what I initially thought. But...inspecting the dates of publication I am now quite sure that Michalowski was not a composing prodigy, but a late starting "part-time" composer with a total output of only 35 opus numbers for piano. I assume that for example the preludes op. 33 have been composed around 1920 and so do not foreshadow Scriabin. Some earlier works may do so, but only slightly, being mainly influenced by Chopin.Alex wrote:Question: Michalowski was 21 years Scriabin's senior. Re: Alfor's Rarities
Thanks for the Michalowski alfor.
The first I heard of him was the etude after Chopin's Impromptu, recorded by M-A Hamelin, which impressed me. I will have to try to see if I can play any of this stuff!

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Ok, that's good to know, but fun to imagine! I wasn't sure about the publication dates. Thanks for clearing that up. Wonderful music!
