I GOT THE BLUES "An Up To Date Rag" by Maggio is reprinted in Ragtime Rediscoveries by Dover.

Here is a midi performance of the title displaying the A theme very similar to OH OH OH!

Indeed No4 of our board rules says:
"4. Not sell for profit or knowingly pass to others who sell for profit, any files downloaded from Pianophilia."

I take the opportunity to say a wholehearted "Thank you" to Frank, Luigi and all other contributors in this thread and in the novelty thread. So far this kind of music has not really been my cup of tea. But I learned a lot in these threads and am glad now to be able to learn to know a lot of music which is new to me.

All the best,
Henning
Thank you very much, Henning!
My message was especially referred to a particular website, http://www.pianorarescores.com , that is selling sheet music picked from the Pianophilia posts.
In particular, the "Piano Rag Giant Collection" in that commercial website is mostly made of sheet music stolen from the Frank Himpls posts, a couple of mine and some other scores picked from digital collections avaliable on the web.
The owner of this website, a shameful jackal in my opinion, is clearly a member of Pianophilia and is kindly invited to remove that "Piano Rag Giant Collection" from that website.
Next week, if the rag collection won't be removed from that site, I will first contact the owner of the domain (I checked and that's goddaddy.com) to inform them about their dishonest patron, then I will ask a friend of mine, a lawyer, if in his opinion this kind of activity from the owner of pianorarescores.com can be legally considered fraud or not.
I'll let the people here know, since it's a bit frustrating for all of us that are sharing music to see somebody exploiting it for making money...
Thanks
Luigi

Dear Benjamin,
thank you very much for this great hand-played midi file recorded by yourself!
It's a great performance!
I hope you will post more of your live played midi files.
By the way, among the great scores that Frank has recently posted here, there are two "Imperial Rag"'s and one is the one composed by Billie Talbot that you also recorded as midi file (you know I really like that piece!).

Lamb, it would be helpful to have these uploaded so as to make our ragtime collection as complete as possible. Certainly all the public domain scores are "out there" at various library sites, but maybe not concentrated as a complete collection.

Dear Frank,
Ted Tjaden has created a ragtime website in which he included several rags, common and rare ones. There are also the complete colelctions of Scott Joplin, James Scott and Joseph Lamb among the others.
Here's the link:

Frank, thank you so much for the fantastic rags you're posting! I'm sorry I'm not much active in this period, but from time to time I'll try to add something myself.
Here are a bunch of pieces for the Pianophiliacs.

I think a lot of people here know who that is, but I guess finding his user name on this forum is impossible.

He has been doing this for years, which is as long as I have been suggesting on every forum I belong to not to buy anything from him.

I have a feeling that with the rapid expansion of IMSLP, his profit is but a fraction of what it used to be, so we have something to celebrate. It is also pleasing to note that e bay is no longer infested with people selling discs of "complete works".

Hello All,
I agree with the sentiments about commercial exploitation - though I'm not sure how that translates to enthusiastic gifting to a friend that you know will "love' the piece you pass on - nor, how that translates when he / she reciprocates by "gifting" you something in return which in turn you post up for other members' benefit. This translates to "trading" - but non commercial trading seems to me to be perfectly alright.

I really don't see why it would be impossible to identify the malfeasor in this case. The administrators must have reasonably detailed information on members accounts. There appears to be a strict prohibition against joining as more than one person - i.e. pretending to be two (or more) different people. It implies also that the administrators can (might be able) to spot would-be dual personalities. I'm all for kicking people out who abuse the spirit and ethics of the group. I'm also all for exposing and identifying such people.

I intended to respond to Frank much earlier about this, since he has resorted to putting a stamp on his scans. My response would have been to the effect that it is a shame that he has to 'deface' his scores - but more importantly that the stamp does not convey sufficient information to someone who has actually paid, that they have been ripped off and could (*as a genuine pianophile*) have obtained the same thing for free from people who enjoy sharing with genuine enthusiasts.

I was actually going to devise a hotly worded stamp for Frank and others but I'm sorry to say I don't have much free time over the next 5 months.

If there is a person on this site doing this rapacious commercial exploitation (and I in my ignorance3, honestly don't have a clue who it is) - surely there are means to exclude them completely.

Sorry - I've run out of time - angry wife waiting in car ...

to be continued
