Composer Eduard Artemyev (1937-2022) died on 29 December.

He wrote music for two Russian Olympic Games and more than 150 artistic, documentary, and animated films. His scores include the Andrey Tarkovsky films Solaris, Mirror, and Stalker; the Nikita Mikhalkov films At Home among Strangers, A Slave of Love, An Unfinished Piece for Mechanical Piano, A Few Days from the Life of I. I. Oblomov, Family Relations, and others; as well as Andrey Konchalovsky’s Siberiade.

His Preludes for Piano (pub.2020) refer to (derive from?) his time at the Moscow Conservatory.

Burt Bacharach died on February 8th, aged 93.
By pure coincidence, I donated an Bacharach album to a charity shop a few days later.
It was part of a massive clear-out of duplicates and stuff that didn't interest me.
(The album in question wasn't a duplicate.)

One internationally famous soprano whom I've only recently realised is sadly no longer alive is Edita Gruberova, who died in 2021 aged 74, following a head injury. The Slovak-born singer once spent 5 years in jail for her opposition to communist rule. To get an idea of her amazing vocal technique, check out this fantastic applause-inducing pot-boiler of an aria by Ambroise Thomas. It's the Act 2 Polonaise 'Je suis Titania' from Mignon.
