Hello,

I’m wondering if there was any luck in finding Op. 187, Variations on 2 old Christmas Songs. Might be nice as we approach the festive season.

Thanks

Hello besmart,

Apparently Niemann's works got lost or destroyed during and/or after WW2 or the fire at his home, where he only was able to save his most important belongings (such as German poetry books, a chest with family souvenirs or letters). After five years of research, contacting the inherits of Niemann's manuscripts and visits to several libraries in Germany, I - unfortunately - have to say that there will be no chance to see this work (same goes for Opp. 151, 156, 157 and 166)...

I'm sorry to disappoint you :(

Here is a typeset that I just finished!

It's 'Die Harzreise, Op.77' which may be published in 1921. I had no information about the publication date at my fingertips so please do not take this as proven. In addition I attached another piece to this file; a piece that bears the title 'Unter Birken' (engl. 'Under Birches'). I can only imagine that this is either mislabeled by the publishing house (Neue Musik-Zeitung) or it was originally intended by Niemann back in 1916 to implement this short little piece into a Suite called 'Deutscher Frühling' (engl. 'German Spring') and place it right at the beginning as a little Prelude to the cycle.
Not to forget the influences of World War One when German patriotism was at its climax: Being a man heavily connected to his German roots and Germany Niemann could presumably had started the cycle 'Deutscher Frühling' to express his loyalty to his home country. This, however, is in contradiction to Niemann's pacifism and his dislike of the later Nazi Regime. After World War One when Germany lost nearly everything and patriotism was at its low point Niemann could have aborted his plans of the cycle and implemented the one remaining piece into 'Die Harzreise' with a an alternative ending that is reminiscent of the first piece of 'Die Harzreise'.

Best wishes
Robin

Hello! I am playing Niemann’s piano sonata no. 1 op. 60 for my final recital. Did anyone know where I can get the original score?

Hello jocelynsese21 and welcome to the forum!

First of all, it makes me very happy that you chose Niemann for your recital!
Second: Do you need an original score? It can, as far as I know, only be obtained using libraries since this and much more of his works are out of print! Of course it depends on where you are but here is a WorldCat link where you can search for libraries nearby that have the desired score.
