Those of us at a certain age can't help but think of Disney's Fantasia and Mickey when hearing the Sorcerer's Apprentice. Which also brings to mind "Night on Bald Mountain" - also in Fantasia, and my first view of a great conductor in action, Leopold Stokowski. I remember as a youngster being on the edge of my chair as my first introduction to Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra was used by Ernie Kovacs in his TV show.Aggelos wrote:Thanks alfor! That's a new one.
So far we've had Gyorgy Sandor, Victor Staub and Lucien Garban versions.
And Paul Dukas isn't obscure. Remember Disney's Fantasia and Mickey as the Sorcerer's Appretince

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Most widely known is the Scherzo from op. 16,
but I prefer the other pieces:
Eugen d'ALBERT
Intermezzo op. 16/3, Ballade op. 16/4 (Nos. 1&2: http://www.mediafire.com/?mwdmm1itxwz) Posted as an example for the piano works of this hardly ever heard Swedish composer:
Lars-Erik LARSSON
Sonatin Nr. 2 op. 39

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Great fun playing the very colorful Gruenberg piece and full of pianistic surprises, Alfor--this is quite beautiful. My ears are loving the Krein Violin piece--his harmony is so interesting that I've played through this piece 4 times. Many thanks, Alfor.alfor wrote:Seemingly out of print:
