Hello all,
Does anyone have any information regarding this interesting valse piece? Thanks in advance!
I could not find much on this composer, J. (possibly I.) Zakharchuk / Захарчук .
The only composer I am aware of is Iosif (Joseph) Semyonovich Zakharchuk - who was a regent and composer of the Baptist brotherhood in Ukraine. He created various choirs across the region, especially in Kharkov, and served as a regent in Kiyv. Together with his brother he conducted regency courses between 1922-1927 and trained many young regents in various cities of Ukraine including Donetsk and Vinnitsa. He primarily wrote hymns or similar choral arrangements. I couldn't find reference to any instrumental music, and the link to YouTube was not viable, so I could not listen to the piece. Not aware of any dates beyond he seems to be active around 1920-1930.
The Birthday album is by a different Zakharchuk (Timothy).
I think bingo is right. I found the list of contents and it indeed contains Little waltz and Birthday.
Thank you - did anyone have any luck with the blog?
I thought that T. Zakharchuk was also a possibility because the translation/transliteration abilities of most musicians posting music is quite frankly appalling. Also, the T on the cover is stylized as a J.
The blog has password-protected zip files connecting PDFs but there is no obvious connection between blog posts and YouTube videos.
It's possible that the blog has the password posted somewhere in it - I tried a few obvious candidates without success.

ah yes, Russian cursive is even more tricky at times. Also, the zip that I linked to is the one with the Zakharchuk music, as the date corresponds to the recording and also a live broadcast. It was mentioned that the password was shared during a live broadcast but not sure where that is, particularly if there is a recording of it.

Although there are a number of recordings of works by Chugunov, alas no recordings of either piano sonatas. I also checked on Russian sites, and again nothing seems to have been recorded.

Thanks for checking different sites. I’ve been also looking for a recording of Igor Yakushenko Piano Sonata and was wondering if you have found it somewhere (perhaps on one of the Russian sites?)
I have just checked on a number of Russian sites and no mention of the sonata being recorded. I did find that the piano concerto was recorded, and you can hear that on YouTube but nothing for the sonata.

Do you know where I can acquire a copy of his second sonata? I can't find it anywhere...
Chugunov's piano sonata no. 2 was published by Kompozitor in 1996. I have checked all my usual library sources and none are listing the work, nor could I find a copy on-line. And the Kompozitor website seems to be blocked (possibily because of the war). Even if I could find a copy then the chances of obtaining a copy are extremely diffiuclt because of the banking sanctions against Russia.
The only hope might be if an international library purchased a copy or one comes up on a 2nd hand site..........but suspect that will be very rare. Plus it would still be in copyright and hence most library establishments would not allow a copy.

I found this listing on WorldCat for what appears to be Chugunov's second sonata (though I could not find the other 3)... It's in a book with 2 other piano sonatas by Aleksandr Balashov and Aleksandr Mirgorodsky: https://www.worldcat.org/title/57478969
Several libraries in the US seem to have a copy of this. I might try to get this loaned to me somehow.
