Ferruccio wrote: Dear Alfor,
thank you very much for the Pijper. I like his writing.
May I order more of such moderate modernism of moderate difficulty ? ;)

This is very useful. And one can trust in your taste ! :D
Pijper was a terrific composer - the Piano Concerto & Violin Concerto and the Second and Third Symphonies are marvellous pieces. And there's lots of good chamber music too: five quartets, two violin sonatas and two cello sonatas. A minor master of the Twentieth Century and a towering figure in the Netherlands where surely he must be the father of Twentieth Century Dutch music. Many many thanks Alfred.

I think Hendrik Andriessen might have disagreed with you there Rob, he was the father of Jurriaan and Louis and a great composer of church, organ and other music. Of course Pijper was a towering figure in Dutch music, add to these two, van Dieren, Wagenaar, also a dynastic name, Orthel and Badings and you have a very strong line-up that took Holland into the 20th century.
My own personal preference would be for Andriessen as having the most influence.
Incidentally it would be nice to hear more people tackle the Pijper Sonata and Sonatinas, well worth the study.
