Composer/pianist Alfred Galpin wrote a piece called: "Lament for H.P.L." (which was H.P. Lovecraft)
Pretty rare I guess, but maybe someone here possess a copy?

Chromaticon - this peaked my interest too, as an ardent fan of Lovecraft. Apparently, the whole score was included in Lovecraft's 'Marginalia' but have not been able to ascertain if it got published elsewhere. And copies of 'Marginalia' start from £150 to over £1,000 for a copy (not sure if it was ever re-printed) ? Might be able to borrow via a local library unless a member has a copy of this book ?

John Knowles Paine

There is a new, clear scan of Paine's wonderful Romance Op.39 posted Aug. 31, 2015 at IMSLP (1.67MB):

http://imslp.org/wiki/Romance,_Op.39_%2 ... Knowles%29

For those who like a Chopinesque nocturne with the feel of a barcarolle, PM me for a copy of Paine's lovely Nocturne Op.45 Boston, Schmidt, ©1889. The very generous scanner requests the file be kept private. It is copyright-free, so no need to send my your email; a PM will do.

The A section (barcarolle?) is here, played by Denver Oldham:

Beryl Rubinstein (1898-1952). American pianist, teacher & composer.

An example of his piano music - Sonatina in C# minor (1929). Further piano works can be found on IMSLP (Concert Transcription of Gershwin's 'Porgy & Bess' and Etude No. 2 'Whirligig').

Thank you indeed, Malcolm. I am delighted to have another substantive piece by this composer. I've been playing his "Whirligig" for over 30 years.

Abram Chasins (1903-1987) - don't think this has been posted before - considered by some as his most original composition Narrative 'Remembrance of Things Past'.

Thank you!

The piece is dedicated to his wife, Constance Keene, a fairly "bony" woman who was much admired for her virtuosic rendering of Rachmaninoff's piano works. I do own her recording of the complete Preludes, but imho it is inferior to the excellent (mono) recording by Moura Lympany. Keene also recorded some of her husband's works, among them - if I am not mistaken - his famous "Three Chinese Pieces".
