According to my sources, the name Cor Anglais is lost in the mists of time, the instrument itself is apparently related to the German Pommer and some say the original name was Cor Inglese a name given to it by the Italians who reckoned that the soft and melancholy sound bore a very great resemblance to the sound of the English Milords voice on "The Grand Tour" and if you happen to know any "Hooray Henrys" then I can well believe it!klavierelch wrote:Thanks for these, Fred.
Most probably the instrument was originally named "cor anglé" which was then developed into "cor anglais".
