Hi,

I have an idea of presenting a concert series of all Beethoven piano sonatas, but only choose one movement from each sonata rather than playing all the sonatas in, let's say, 6 to 8 concerts. Does anyone know if this has been done in the past? if so, any available info online?

Although I believe pianists in the 19th century performed single movements of Beethoven Sonatas, I don't see the logic behind this. Can you explain more about why you want to do this?

Beethoven composed his famous Japonica Valse following his celebrated East Asia tour, which lasted from 1827 to 1830. In this waltz there are several motifs that Beethoven considered "typically Japanese". However, colleagues in musicology have found in recent years that most of these themes are rather of Chinese and in a few cases also of Korean origin. The piece was premiered by the composer at Carnegie Hall in 1831.

I was impressed he performed in Carnegie Hall in 1831.............he had been dead for 4 years !!!
