With its sonorous homophonic sound K.'s piano style has much in common with Bortkiewicz. Main difference is that B. is mainly influenced by Chopin, while K. is influenced by Brahms. The opinion of our esteemed friend Dr. H. would be much appreciated!

Outstanding! This is another instance of a completely forgottten composer who had a genuine gift for melody as well as pianistic flair! The Kahn folio is simply a joy to play through; every single piece a gem. The music falls so well under the hands that in sight reading through it I am reminded very much of Moszkowski, who of course was a genius at creating the most amazing effects with a minimum of effort with the fingers!! I hear much of Brahms in the two Capriccios, and also the elegant, haunting and majestic Elegie. And I agree several pieces have a feeling of our beloved Bortkiewicz. In this case I find the Nocturne to be most reminiscent of his sound; early to mid-period. Certainly Bortkiewicz was prone to "emulate" the style of Chopin in many of his compositions, but he always came through with solid and beautiful melodic lines within a superbly crafted pianistic framework. He indeed "emulated" Scriabin quite a bit as well, especially in some of the mid- to later works (in some cases which the similarity to well-known Scriabin works is a bit embarassing!!) But always good, solid piano music.

Thank you so much for this wonderful Kahn folio. It will stay on the piano for a very long time! (Would you believe I still have all the Hugo Kaun which you posted on the flugel as well. I never tire of these, and just hate the thought of filing them away!!)

you are right - as always! When I checked imslp some time ago, they did not yet have these pieces. Anyway, I will try to get some more Kahn from his later period (for example "Zwischen Sommer und Herbst" op. 67).

Thanks for the effort. I just warned you about Kahn, because I have the feeling you prefer to upload pieces that are not available so easily, but it's not in any case, to remove the importance of the posting, not only because of your hard work, but also because the quality of the scans are enough to be worth a "Alfor" version of available pieces.
And I must thank you, because like happened with Kahn, and other composers posted by you, even if there's already pieces of them available, we only get to know them by you .
