How about your personal view on Martino Tirimo's edition?
Admittedly I do not know it good enough, but as most „Wiener Urtext Editions“ it surely is as good a reference as the other Urtext editions. For those who know the Tirimo edition it will be especially interesting to compare it with the Ferguson edition!

P.S. Also highly recommended:
Schott single editions of a couple of Schubert Sonatas by Walter Georgii!

Thank you Riodk, Promusician, and Fred for your reflections on the
subject of collecting different editions of familiar piano works. ;)

Ah! Yes, Ferguson is another master editor of highest order. Didn't expect to be playing Schubert today, but Ferguson talked me into it with his extensive commentary.

Thank you, Alfred.

You are welcome!

While generally easily accessible, the first mvt. of D. 850 contains many spots which are difficult to finger properly. Imho Ferguson's solutions here are most excellent! This again verifies that Ferguson was not only a fine composer and musicologist but also an excellent performer (mainly piano duet and chamber music). He was honoured by Myra Hess to participate in her legendary National Gallery Concerts.

Thanks for the posting, Alfor. This edition is extensively researched and contained insightful footnotes of each sonata.

Thanks again for the posting of one of my favorite sonata, I wish to buy the original book (the printout A4 is no match with the original 12x9 inches quality paper) if I can find a price cheaper than retail (+shipping).

Please note that this edition is available new from Amazon.
(Forgive me for mentioning it, but I'm surprised that the 70 year
rule doesn't apply to Howard Ferguson's editions of Schubert.)
