Lots of good polyphony here in these WALTERSHAUSEN studies. I really like the fugues which incorporate chorale tunes. The only chorale tunes I really know are the one Bach did choral preludes on, band here we have fugues incorporating chorales. A very nice one on Ein Feste Berg -- it is the chorale most familiar to me. This chap knows counterpoint prretty well. (Too bad Furtwangler did take any lessons from him (or Reger) .

All in all, a very nice collection!

Yes, piano playing can be dangerous, especially playing Beethoven late at nite, I found out in a different era, but not much to fear from KOCKERT's fun little chromatic romp. Interesting that this little piece was actually commissioned.

Kalkbrenner's 24 Etudes Op20 Nos.1-12 (ed. Simrock) are a welcome new
addition to IMSLP, although No.12 from this set is a completely different
piece from the file of his Op20 No12 (ed. Philipp) which was uploaded to

Agreed! Of dubious value for sure but a fun little novelty item.

So the Kockert pioece is of "dubious value"' ... but to whom might I ask, if I was playing in a 1920's bordello I imagine I would have been shot if I didn't play such pieces as the Kockert and Scott Joplin etc. If I had played Bach or Beethoven, pieces whose "value" has never been in doubt then for sure I would have ended up in a heap on the floor outside the bordello. My point being that such descriptions of music are ultimately futile and unhelpful, because what is of value to one man is valueless to another, so please guys try to be a little more constructive about music "fit for a purpose" as most music ever composed was written for a reason and not just as a technical exercise (Czerny excepted of course and then not always) otherwise we won't be " shooting the piano player" but shooting the uploader!
