For this Sunday morning I'd like to post a selection of popular song transcriptions by the great Billy Mayerl. All in all, there are many dozens (if not a few hundred) of Mayerl transcriptions of which I am aware, some of which were released by independent music publishers and many others which Mayerl himself published through his School of Syncopation. It will take months to scan them all, but they are indeed a valuable and very enjoyable group and I will attempt to keep a stream of these coming as time permits.

Happy sight reading!

Moving on to the florid pianistics of Lee Sims...often called "The Liberace Of the 1920s" he was perhaps a bit overly fond of appegio embellishments....but he had a very substantial technique and could be a "hot" player, material warranting. Sims recorded extensively for Brunswick records, and was very popular on the radio during the 1930s along with his wife/vocalist Ilomay Bailey. Sims composed a number of novelty piano solos, a selection of which follows.

Hi All,
I know that most people download stuff here without even aknowledging it most of the time. I usually belong to those- shame on me.

Some put occasional thanks here and there and it is certainly the thing to do, out of courtesy at the very least.

But I think that the amount of effort a few people put to offer so much to the "mass" should be recognized in a way. and this thread [ with Alfor's as well] is in my view an ongoing oustanding example, not just because of the quantity but also because most of the posted material [ if not all] come from personal collections and could barely be found otherwise..

So without discounting what other have done, are doing or will do .. I find this thread completely mind boggling in that respect even if "stride" is not my favorite style.. [ and i cannot even grab a 10'th with my hands anyway :D ]

So thanks a lot to Franck and all the other contributors...

JF
