Having given us the Greek clue, for which I got the translation,
I looked at several piano works by the well-known, widely neglected,
and palindromic Mr. Reger on IMSLP, but not that particular one.

Goodness me! (Yes much news on the Panama Canal of late, which I am happily far from), but Reger's piano music with such a light touch is something quite unexpected. And with such eloquently manicured fingerings too, in an uncharacteristically light textured piece. Were it item 2, the fugue in that opus, perchance I might have had it right.

P.S.: In my younger days I actually did work for NSA while in the military, but have much to be ashamed of now of such a history.

...the fingerings are, like the pedal indications, by Reger's friend Robert Teichmüller.

Coincidentally, it was only a week ago that I was reading through "Träume am Kamin" for the first time. I was immediately struck by the lightness and loveliness of the second piece, Con moto. Thanks very much for the whole set, Alfor.

Alfred,you have given us many ingenious and highly logical fingerings in the Rach 3. While certainly a work I would never perform, I enjoy very much playing thorough this and trying your solutions.

In my youth I and some fellow students would go to piano stores and try out instruments by playing the cadenza in the 1st mov't. Pity we never learned the ossia!
