Thanks Alfred... this is a gorgeous sonata. Is there a recording of of this sonata by Rehberg?
Speaking of Schubert, how many versions of the Kupelwieser Waltz are there? I have seen one (Richard Strauss') but am curious if there exist other versions. Even the score I have seen seems to have a couple of errors, is there only one edition of the Strauss version out there?
Thanks,
Parag

Alfred, I did indeed notice the thumb on the black keys here and there in the Hindemith, but not something I would have considered in Schubert. Very interesting indeed!

Steingräber published a couple of Mozart Piano Concertos edited by Walter Rehberg's father Willy Rehberg. It is in these editions that he advocates the use of the thumb on black keys and provides some exercises. (I will scan the respective pages).

Valentyn Silvestrov wrote a cycle of pieces based on this ... I can't quite remember it's name, but I have played it...

Dear Alfor,
I was wondering whether you (or anyone else) could have access to a particular score of
Anton Krause,
Praeludium, Menuett und Toccata, op.13, published by Breitkopf. My own score lacks a few pages from the Menuett and the Toccata, that I would like to complete.
Here is the Praeludium that I had already shared here in the past. I have been after this for years, without any success.
Krause Anton opus 13 Praeludium.pdf
Sorry to occupy your thread. I could actually move this to the German composers.

Thank you for the hint. Actually I need only page 9 and 10 of the score. I have the rest.

I haven't played any Ireland in years, but found my old copy of this piece and dusted it off, and what fingering I did have is not nearly as clever as what you've got, Alfred. I've made some revisions!

Personally, I believe that fingering in complex passages can be
done in various possible ways, and what works best for one pianist
might not be what works best for another. It depends on the shape,
size, strength, and flexibility of the hand, fingers, and thumb involved.
Therefore, I tend not to take too much notice of fingering indications
and rely on instinct (as with pedalling), unless there is a clear case of
running-out-of-fingers happening.
