Friml, R_Chanson.pdf
I am very grateful for this post, Jim - because this obscure piece seems to be the original source of the melody for Friml's celebrated "The Donkey Serenade", written for the 1937 film 'The Firefly'. This itself was a reworking of Friml's 1912 operetta of the same name, but this song was apparently not in it!

Thank you Philip for identifying this tune which has been in my head for decades but not known its origin.

Hyperion provide a useful history of the piece in the notes to their recording of the orchestral version: http://bit.ly/1IlY0bw

To the one and only... Ferruccio:

Ilja HURNICK
op. 2
Dve Toccaty

Out-of-print to my knowledge.

Two very nice Toccatas by a little-known composer.
Mildly contemporary; especially No. 2 influenced by the
Toccata by a certain C.D. - a busy composer whom some of his colleagues
would have liked to de-busy  .

The return of a Genuine Alfor scan with these delightful Hurnik Toccatas. And very nice they are, indeed. This is the very first entry of Hurnik in my library.
Thanks for resurrecting these, Alfred.

Thank you so very much, Isokani, or these very nice Hurnik Preludes and Sonatina. Nice to know the toccatas will have some company. The arietta in the preludes is quite the delight. Going to have fun diving into these tonite.
