Belle Fenstock was another prolific popular composer/pianist active in the 1930s and 1940s. I only know Ms. Fenstock through her music, and have been unable to find biographical details on her. Her music is mostly in the novelty piano solo idiom, but ranges from lighthearted pieces to very serious, ambitious works. As an example of each here is "Algerian Holiday" and "American Rhapsody" by Belle Fenstock.

Dear Frank,
thank you SO MUCH for these scores you recently uploaded!!
While I'm familiar with Pauline Alpert, Belle Fenstock is completely new to me.
Her pieces seem very good!
I had promised to post the "Piano Modes" folio, also including an arrangement by Pauline Alpert, but I'll do that later, since I didn't have enough time for it.
Instead, today I'd send some other scarce rags, that I hope to be interesting.
The first piece is Robert Klock's "Mary Jane Rag" from 1909. Although it doesn't seem to be anything special at first, I think it's a very nice rag and the way it's scored stimulates improvisation. Personally I'd also play it in D flat rather than D natural.
Anyway enjoy the music the way you prefer!
Then there's another piece, an European novelty rag by Eric Plessow.
The title is "Red Devil" and you should try it to see what a shameful steal the first strain is, being it the copy of Arthur Schutt's "Bluin' The Black Keys". But the rest of the piece sounds original and nice.
I hope you'll like it!
Best RAGards
Luigi

I'd also like to post this rather interesting rag.
The title is "Barrel House Rag" (not to be confounded with Brun Campbell's ragtime masterpiece), and it was composed by the well known Clarence Williams and Fate Marable.
Fate Marable is a very interesting pianist. It seems that he recorded a few piano solos near the end, but I never found them.
I've only heard his two recordings with his band, from the 1920s, "Frankie and Johnny" and "Pianoflage" (sadly, no piano solos are included in these tracks :( ).
I will send you the recorded interview to another ragtime pianist of the period, Manuel "Fess" Manetta, speaking of Marable and their job on steamboats.
For the moment, you can read an interesting article on Fate Marable on Mike Meddings website, also including a midi of "Barrel House Rag" I sequenced for Mike: http://www.doctorjazz.co.uk/marabletjr.html
Enjoy the music :D !
Luigi
P.S.
The first strain of the "Barrel House Rag" starts with a riff known in New Orleans as "Get Over, Dirty!". This very strain was also used in a Roy Carew ragtime medley, which I will send later, and, in slightly modified form, in "Tiger Rag".
