Ran into this little vid this morning
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5ArEchp4nw
By Nury Khalmamedov(1940-1983) also Romanized as Nury Khalmamedov. Quite an interesting piece, this "Sound of Dutar" - an instrument whose flavor seems captured quite well by this piece. Here's a nice little related 10 part series where you can hear the Dutar being played.

Composers of piano music in Turkmenistan are few and far between, it would seem, so let's keep a weather eye out for this score.

I don't know if this has been (or would need to be) published as Ashkenazy seems to be just (!) playing the piano and vocal part together. A very nice rendition.

Thought I recognised this piece - copy of score duly attached (not my scan, so thanks to the original scanner).

Thank you so very much, Malc. As a composer, I get quite inspired by ethnic music like this, and find this piece quite enticing.

Hopefully
Dmitri Kabalevsky (1904-1987) needs little introduction - a piano solo arrangement of his suite for orchestra, Op 26 The Comedians.
Happy New Year to one and all !

Thank you, Malcolm, for the very nice transcription. Of course, we all know the famous Galop, but the other pieces in the suite are not so familiar and much fun to be had playing through these. Great way to start the new year!
