Re: Alfor's Rarities
I am sure these pieces will please Frank and toyb..., sorry, tobyjj (and hopefully many others):
Ernst RENTSCH (German - or Swiss? - composer, 1844-1886)
Skizzen Fünf Klavierstücke op. 26 Fine 19th century pieces of medium difficulty.
Commonplace material, but at no place imitating other composers
(except for a bit of Grieg in the last piece).

Wow, as well as writing great music, von Zieritz managed to live in three centuries!alfor wrote:Posted as an example of the piano writing of a little known woman composer:

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Hope Sigismund deserves a high-quality scan:
Sigismund STOJOWSKI
Vier Stücke für das Pianoforte op. 26 Has something in common with Paderewski and X. Scharwenka -
perhaps slightly more "salon" than the latter.

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Thanks Alfor this Thalberg, which was missing from my collection,
a nice 57th. birthday present, which strangely didn't get an automatic
mention today, despite the details being in my member profile.
As regards Zieritz, apart from having distinction of having a name
starting and ending in Z like Zez Confrey, by spanning 3 centuries
she also was composed in the 19th., composed in the 20th., and
decomposed in the 21st. centuries!

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Excellent clear scan Alfred. I do have an original of this but it is rather fragile and would not have come out as nice as this.alfor wrote:Hope Sigismund has deserved a high-quality scan:

Due to lack of practise, my fingers are nowhere near the level to have a good go at this, but at least I have a good clean copy to scribble on my fingerings should I get the urge.
Luv
Thal

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Dear Alfor, it is great to have such a clean copy of the Thalberg! I have only recently been looking at his pieces and had much fun with this Fantasie--they don't write fun pieces like this any more. Much pleasure with the Stojowski Idylls.....these are high quality pieces with good ideas that are well written and of a nice intermediate level which should find a home on many pianos. Wish I could have heard pieces like this when I was in Poland earlier this year, but it was all the usual standard repertoire (as usual). Thanks for these great additions to our growing collections.
