Re: Alfor's Rarities
Thanks for the nice Liadov pieces, Alfor. I didn't know he could write such charming miniatures. These are delightful little pieces.

Heinrich Gottlieb NOREN
1861-1928; Austrian violinist and composer. In his Variationen, Phantasie & Doppelfuge ("Kaleidoskop")
for orchestra he quoted from Richard Strauss' "Heldenleben" and was sued for plagiarism!
I do not know if he wrote any significant piano works. Here is a nice little minuet:
op. 20 Drei Klavierstücke in mittlerer Schwierigkeit Nr. 3 Menuett

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Hi Alfor, while I am too old to enjoy employing this young lady for other purposes, it is nice not be be doing mundane work of binding, scaling and printing.
Today I enjoyed the Pfitzner-Singer Palestrina Paraphrase very much, and naturally it reminds of of another piece. This time it's Dello-Joio's 3rd Piano Sonata-- based on a plainchant. Being an unabashed Dello-Joio fan, I'm always looking at the harmonic layout and here the Pfitzner-Singer is primarily extended triads, while Dello-Joio is is more quartal in harmonization. This is a vast untapped field by most composers and I hope to encounter more works utilizing Palestrina and other plainchant as a point of departure, but I will say it is not easy.
You brightened my day with this interesting surprise. Thanks, Alfor.

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Hi Alfor, yes indeed music is the best possible mistress. An acute observation, and maintenance is less, too!
This is a chance to again compare the Alexandrov Sonata No.3 original edition with the 1967 revised edition available in Volume 3 of the collected works. I have a slight preference to the earlier version, Alfor, and am glad to have this nice hires version.
