Dear Malcom,

Thank you for posting all these wonderful Stepovy pieces. I've not played through all of them yet, so have much fun ahead. Playing the last one first--I really liked the Ukranian Folksongs as these are tunes quite unfamiliar to me.

Anything in particular you're looking for? I saved a lot of stuff from vkgfx before they locked it down. The site had a general score collection, but was best known for its Horowitz transcriptions.

Nice scans of the two slim volumes of Sternberg's Kleine Charakterstücke have just appeared on IMSLP.

Thanks Malcolm. I did find reference to a Sketch in this collection held at the RSL:

I don't know if it is the piece in question.

Yes. I'm looking for Prokofiev's Scherzo from 5 symphony in transcriptions for 2h. of A. Vedernikov

Yes, that is the same album I've mentioned to my Ukrainian friends.

It is not often that I can offer a newly discovered piano work by Bortkiewicz (1877-1952). I have been working closely with a friend in Ukraine, to try to locate some of the missing works and we found this along with the first movement from the Three Pieces for Cello & Orchestra (Op 25) and an arrangement of his Op 3 No. 3 Gavotte-Caprice for Violin & Piano (see Chamber Music thread).

This piece was briefly mentioned in a German book on piano music circa 1906-07 - so this early work is likely from that same period (so contemporary with Opuses 4-6).
