Sibley has just released twelve keyboard sonatas by Friedrich Wilhelm Rust (1739-1796) - https://urresearch.rochester.edu/instit ... onNumber=1

Quite boring in my mind when I tried to sight read it a long time ago (I happened to have this score in such a brittle condition that it was impossible to scan and I had to dust the paper crumbs on the piano each time I used that score). The truth is that my playing skills were probably too limited to make this music appear what it should be. Maybe I should give a new try.

Music scores by Eduard Marxsen

Post by Generoso »

Eduard Marxsen (1806 - 1887) was quite well known for being the teacher of Brahms (one of my favorite composers). I know that Brahms dedicated his 2nd Piano Concerto to Eduard Marxsen (the concerto with the slow movement which is almost a cello concerto.) It is very difficult to find any of the many works written by Marxsen. I believe he wrote around 70 different works. Has anyone found any of his scores? It would be interesting to see the influences that Brahms may have acquired from his studies with Marxsen.

Here is a short excerpt of one of his works:

Generoso - try the Berlin State Library - they have quite a number of works by Marxsen (use the index card catalogue not the on-line catalogue). I use Berlin a lot for scores - their prices are extremely reasonable compared to many other national libraries, and the collection is one of the best anywhere. I've put a link to the card catalogue below.

An extreme rarity:

Else SCHMITZ-GOHR
Suite für Klavier

Schmitz-Gohr Suite.pdf
A charming piece "Im alten Stil"

ESG (1901-1987) was a German pianist, teacher and composer.
She made a handful of recordings which include Reger's Telemann Variations.

Thanks for posting, Walter & Alfor. Nothing like a little light music to brighten up a rather dreary day here.
