As the title says (à la manière de ... = in the manner of ...), it is clearly intended to gently imitate or mock another composer's style. It is too complex for me to sight-read this. Have you any idea of who is imitated?

A nice scan of Joseph Jongen's Serenade Op19 has just appeared on IMSLP.

I do like a bit of Jongen every now and again, but I do believe he is Belgian rather than French :D

How about LEON Jongen? I have a nice copy of his Esquisses ... apparently from the collection of Riccardo Vines ...

Thank you so much for Ermend Bonnal, Alfor. It's very interesting and I've never heard of him before.
Hopefully I'll find some time to play through all the pieces!

Best.

Thank you dear Alfred, for the Bonnal miniatures. We need to have some easy pieces like these absent of severe technical demands in our libraries just to relieve tension from other much more complex challenges. I had much fun playing through them today and immediately realized that theses pieces are great material for MIDI orchestration, so more fun to be had.

Thanks for posting these.

Dear isokani,
I would be very interested to the Esquisses of Leon Jongen if you would be so kind.

Peter.

I'm posting this Gallica link here, even though some of the composers in the collection aren't French.
The individual pieces themselves might be available elsewhere too, but I thought it was a nice collection, especially as it includes a hand-written piece by Rossini.
Some of the pieces are challenging enough to boot!

"Keepsake des pianistes", from 1841.
