Does anyone know for certain what Stanford's Op51 is?
IMSLP recently published his list of works with just a
question mark against this particular opus number.

So I did a bit of delving and found that his 3 Motets Op38
were published in the 1970s as Op51. But it's not clear if
this number is genuine or spurious.

Curiously, Op38 itself has two works attributed to it on IMSLP,
the other one being The Queen of the Seas Concert-Overture,
as listed in Porte's book.

To add to the confusion, Stanford scholar Jeremy Dibble
lists this concert-overture as Op33, which according to
Porte and IMSLP is 6 Part Songs.

My conclusion to all these contradictions is that these should
be the correct opuses:-

Op33 6 Part Songs
Op38 The Queen of the Seas
Op51 3 Motets.

If I'm right, the usual attribution of Op38 to the 3 Motets
is indeed wrong, and the 1970s publication is correct.

So, rightly or wrongly, I've now altered the details of
Op51 on IMSLP to fit my theory.

Holst wrote 4 ballets, the famous The Perfect Fool Op39,
The Lure, or the Moth and the Flame, The Golden Goose Op45 No1,
and The Morning of the Year Op45 No2.
This is what the last-named work sounds like (in 2 parts).

Three Sir John Taverner world premieres will take place at the
biennial Manchester International Festival (MIF), starting on
Thursday and continuing until the 21st. of July.
'Love Duet' from ‘The Play of Krishna’ – an unperformed opera
sung by John Mark Ainsley which Tavener described as ‘the most
ecstatic music that I have ever written’.
His take on Tolstoy’s 'The Death of Ivan Ilyich' will be performed
by cellist Steven Isserlis with bass-baritone Jonathan Lemalu.
Meanwhile, 'If Ye Love Me' is a new piece for the MIF Sacred
Sounds Women’s Choir.
Taverner himself won't be appearing, but there will be a rare UK
appearance by Martha Argerich who will perform Shostakovich
in another of the few classical concerts, and Alina Ibragimova
will be giving a virtuosic violin recital. This will be her second
visit to the festival.

Can someone help to identify this work....... i am fairly certain it is a english, or american composer.

This is a very frequently performed chorus work in South East Asia, unfortunately no one seems to know who the composer is.

Dear JS, I'm delighted that the problem has gone away. I used a
recently-acquired laptop running Win7 64bit, and used a 64bit
version of Irfanview, to see if that made a difference. From what
you've said, it clearly shows that it did.
:-)

Isaac Nathan (1790-1864) emigrated to Australia in 1841. Charles Mackerras was his grandson. He is also famous for being the first person killed by a tram in Australia.
