I have had the sheet music of this piece in my hands several times, seriously wanting to start learning. But then other projects and daily work made me stop again.

Thank you for taking some of the mystery out of the beautiful Godowsky Sonata with the posting of your most excellent fingering. No way I could come up with something this good. This is a really nice work that deserves to be heard more so I hope when Ferruccio had completed his work on Haydn he can add this to his "next-to-be-learned" que.

Please let me know if you are interested in fingered versions of the other movements.
Once you have mastered the first movement, the rest of the sonata are minor challenges.
Imho this Sonata contains some of the best music Godowsky has written.
I especially like the "Viennese" atmosphere of this piece - influences ranging from Brahms via Johann Strauss
to early Alban Berg!

Excellent post as always Alfor. I'm enjoying the Hindemith-style pieces you've posted as of late--quite refreshing. I wish I had a chart similar to the Merrick when I was working on Chopin's nocturnes many years ago. All that time spent with a magnifying glass and slide rule trying to work out those daunting bits of filigree work!

Dear Alfred, what a delightful little piece the Marx Sonatina is. Being a fan of Hindemith, it certainly seems to fall into that niche. It is very welcome addition. (I have always wondered what with all the Hindemith students and influence he had, there seems to be no Hindemith that we can comfortably drop composers such as Marx in.) Anyway, it is a very comfortable style for the ear.

The Merrick "fioriture"...a what? So Google Translate says a Fiorture is an "arabesque, embellishment, ornament or filling" so that helps, and I've never seen a chart quite like this, it only lacks Alfor fingerings ( ). but these pieces are so well known to most of us that we fingerings are probably already carved in granite.
