Thanks Alfor for the Schmidt scores and the recordings. Very beautiful music indeed.

Steuermann gives us very nice pedaling and fingerings for these pieces. A most welcome version of these great pieces. Thanks for this posting, Alfred.

With the approval of our beloved
Mister ("Sir") Malcolm Henbury-Ballan
(what a name!) I will post some examples of excellent
Urtext editions which are still in print.

First example is an edition by Howard Ferguson,
who IMHO is one of the best ever editors of music.
I will also post an evaluation and a complete list of his editions,
which are all - except one, if I am correct - still in print.
So take the opportunity to buy these excellent decent
priced editions, as long as they are available!!

Is it really necessary to get each and every piece of music for free,
especially when it is still in print, decent priced and well-bound??!!

Alfred, thank you for posting the wonderful Ferguson edition of the Brahms op.119. He certainly produced a quality edition. It is excellent and nice to play through these pieces again which I've not touched for 30 years.

Tonight I would like to draw your attention to an excellent
series of modern Urtext editions:

BÄRENREITER URTEXT
(Brahms, Mendelssohn, Janacek, Schumann, Scriabin Sonatas, a.o.)

As an example I post Brahms' op. 119 (with the approval of Sir Malcolm Henbury-Ballan).
This volume contains an excellent old device, a so-called "Wendel"
(from the word "wenden" = "to turn"); i.e. a pull-out
page (tearsheet) which allows to view 3 pages simultaneously.

file deleted for copyright* reasons
*this strange term - mainly unknown in the 21st century - may be looked up in the internet

These editions are scrupolously edited, very well printed and bound,
and surely are worth the effort to get more pocket money from your wife...resp. husband!
