Re: Alfor's Rarities
Posted as an example for the piano style of this interesting though more or less forgotten
German composer:
Karl HÖLLER (pupil of Joseph Haas, grand pupil of Reger)
Kleine Sonate op. 41 Nr. 3 Recommended!!
It might be a revealing experience to follow the stylistic development by first playing Reger ("Aus meinem Tagebuch"), then Haas (op. 51, op. 53, op. 55), then op. 41 by Höller*.
*if you do not want to look for op. 41 Nos. 1 & 2 at http://www.scorser.com, please consult your sheet music dealer.

The PICK-MANGIAGALLI Danse is an amazing and interesting piece, Alfor. I am developing a growing appreciation of this composer thanks to your postings.

Re: Alfor's Rarities
..and a little present for Fr...ank:
Georg SCHUMANN (see my older postings; German chorus master, composer, pianist*)
Sechs Fantasien op. 36
No. 1. Rückblick.-Reflection.
No. 2. Im Begegnen.-Meeting. (Menuett)
No. 3. Erinnerungen nach dem Balle.-Visions after a ball. Pianistically excellent, extremely charming genre pieces!
*not only a busy chamber musician, but also a fine soloist who succesfully performed Beethoven's 32

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Dear Alfred,
A better present I couldn't ask for! Any works by Georg Schumann are highly welcome, and this romantic masterpiece certainly lives up to the high standard of piano writing established by other pieces you have posted, such as Op. 61 (a real favorite piano-cycle of mine!), the beautiful Ballade and Fantasie-Etudes. On the "Sechs Fantasien," I like them all but my favorite by far is No. 1, which is truly an example of fluid piano writing that compliments both the pianist and the ear. Piano composers like Georg Schumann, Hugo Kaun and so many others which you've shared with us are really in a class by themselves, as masters of the finest late romantic piano writing. As I say so often in response to your posts...Ausgezeichnet!!
As Always,
Frank
