Re: Alfor's Rarities
Dear Alfor,
thanks as always for all rarities posted by you !!
The Hasse starts good, first two movements are really interesting. But then it suffers from audible willing to be something special ...
The Schelb seems to me the better cyclus !
All three pieces at one level. (First impression)
Thanks anyway !!

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Hi Alfred, I do like a nice fugue and Nicode has given us a nice one here, and as you point out very Brahmsian. I wonder what everone's favorite 20th century fugue is. Mine has been the fugue from the Barber sonata for some 20 years--not because it's a great fugue, but because it's a great piece. Anyway, it is nice to play this Nicode again...and it is a very well formed piece. Thanks for the alternate scan.

Jean Louis NICODE
Walzer und Burleske op. 28
Lightweight, compared to the Variations op. 18.
In pieces like these N. shows a certain resemblance with
composers like Benjamin Godard. Paul SCHEINPFLUG
Violin Sonata op. 13

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Hope, this will make your day, dear Dr. H.
:
Friedrich GERNSHEIM
Variationen op. 18
Although G.'s style is never complicated, it is in certain respects
quite unique. Like op. 22 strongly Beethoven influenced.

..and one for FRANK
:
Friedrich GERNSHEIM
Romanze (E dur) op. 23
Excellent work - partly Brahms influenced, partly haunted by the spirits of Schubert.

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Dear Alfred,
Thank you so much for these new Gernsheim pieces! I just love this composer (particularly the chamber works, but the piano music is right up there too). This Variations set fits in very nicely with the one you posted earlier, and I very much like his creativity in these superbly crafted pieces. The Romanze is just lush and beautiful..the kind of piano music I could listen to all day long! Wonderful treats!! Many, many heartfelt thanks for your thoughtfulness in sharing these with us all.
As Always,
Frank (a.k.a. Dr. H)
