Lovely little sonatinas, Alfor, and just what's needed after working through the Feinberg. I've been a big fan of Neal's pieces since his 24 Etudes were posted. It is very useful to have nice works like these sonatinas on hand and they are such fun to play

That's a lot to look forward to, Alfor! I have really been getting into Neal's Op.47 Rhapsody which has a whole lot going for it while the Feinberg is gathering a sprinkling of dust but much fun at the keyboard today on our national holiday playing through all the scores you posted while I was on vacation.

From Gründerzeit...

Heinrich NEAL
Sonate für Clavier op. 30
Interesting work, though not totally convincing.
Partly academic, partly evoking Wagner's world (Meistersinger, Tristan).
In parts also slightly reminiscent of Benjamin Dale's sonata.

...to Jugendstil

Sigfrid KARG-ELERT
Sieben charakteristische Stücke op. 32 (composed 1903, revised edition 1928)
Here - as in many other works - K.-E. might duly be called a German Grieg.

Yes, Alfor, the Neal sonata is somewhat disappointing, although I do like the harmonies employed which are somewhere between Wagner and Rachmaninoff. The thematic material he employs seems weak to my ears and the development seems somewhat forced but there are many bright moments.

The Karg-Elert is yet another delight. Very Grieg-like indeed!

Thanks for these, Alfor.

Thank you so much for all the pieces Alfor. Mainly the Karg-Elert who is one of my favourite "obscure" composers.

Cheque...no...CZECH day:

Extremely rare:

Josef Bohuslav FOERSTER
(1859-1951; close friend of Mahler, published interesting memoirs: "Der Pilger")
Suite of Jicin op. 124 (also orchestral version)

Deserving a high-quality scan:

Josef SUK
O Matince op. 28 (the premature death of Dvorak's daughter Ottilie,
Suk's beloved wife and mother of his son, resulted in this touching music;
not suited for children!)
Somewhat strange that this Czech edition was edited by French pianist Blanche Selva!
