I agree with Freruccio, this really is an outstanding collection of well-crafted pieces with interesting harmonies which young people should find attractive. Thanks for the posting and translation.

Do you happen to know if Alexander Mosolov's Opera "the hero" was ever recorded?
It was written around the 1920's , the same time when zavod was composed.
A very avant-garde staging was made in 1989. Apparently it was extremely modern. A very important work of his.

Thanks for Khrennikov pieces by the way.
Was hoping you could get his other concertis

Hi Tont

No...I have no record of the opera ever being recorded in the Soviet Union [unless Isokani might know different]?

And 2nd concerto not forgotten.............I have it on my pile ready to scan :D

Malcolm
Independantly from The Hero, two other operatic works are mentionned by scholars (although no one precisely say where the manuscripts could be located) 1941 The Signal and Masquerade after Lermontov.
there does seem to exist a recorded testimony of the 1989 concert performance of The Hero, as there's none of Popov's 4th (only choral) symphony, and most surprising no trace of his string quartet symphony performed at least three times by Danel SQ in the first months of 2010!

Likely my last posting until after the Christmas festivities are over and we begin yet another new year.

I posted a number of works by Yakov Stepovy (1883-1921) a few months back [on the old Russian & Soviet thread part 2] - here are a few more works from the opus numbered range.

Op 5 No. 4 Danse [from Quatre Morceaux Op 5]
Stepovy Y - Op 5 No. 4 Danse.pdf
Op 19 Cinq Miniatures
Stepovy Y - Op 10 Cinq Miniatures.pdf
Op 12 No. 1 Prelude in F major [from Deux Preludes Op 12]
Stepovy Y - Op 12 No. 1 Prelude in F major.pdf
Op 14 Trois Morceaux
Stepovy Y - Op 14 Trois Morceaux.pdf

Thank you moniehof......not often I am surprised and discover a Russian composer totally new to me. Shall examine these with much interest [could not seem to find out about him].

Something is a slightly easier vein - I posted several works by Vasily Zolotarev (1873-1964) a few months back, but did not include this work as the photocopy was quite poor. However, a friend asked for a copy, and as it did not look too bad when scanned, I am duly sharing with PP members.
