Piano Music for Left Hand

Post by FolkeNauta »

Hello all pianophiles,

Finally I decided to dedicate a new recording to solely Russian music for the left hand.
There turned out to be more than enough original works for one full-length CD. However I'm going to leave out some of them mostly because I felt they lacked quality. I will also add my own transcription of Rachmaninov's Vocalise.

The total playlist will look like this:

Alexander Scriabin - Nocturne op. 9/2
Felix Blumenfeld - Etude op. 36
Aram Khachaturian - 4 pieces for children (slightly arranged)
Reinhold Glière - Impromptu op. 99/1
Ossip Gabrilowitsch - Etude op. 12/2
Klimenty Korchmarev - Prelude in c sharp minor
Sergei Bortkiewicz - Epithalame op. 65/3
Dmitri Shostakovich - Prelude op. 87/13 (arranged)
Vladimir Blok - Sonatina
Vladimir Pohl - Poème op. 17
Vladimir Ziring - Two Preludes op. 28
Nikolai Peyko - Sonata (1992)
Sergei Rachmaninov - Vocalise (arranged)

I will keep you posted if you are interested!

Best regards,
Folke Nauta.

Dear Folke,
I'll be very interested in hearing about it since I'm a left hand works "lover/composer/transcriber/recorder"
Keep us updated, please.

All the best

Hello Artur,

Thanks for your response!
I'll be glad to send you a CD as soon as it is ready.
Small change of repertoire: I find the 1992 Sonata by Nikolai Peyko equally worth recording. I don't know of any other left-hand work which is in that rather conservative but pleasant-to-the-ears Kabalevsky-like style. And besides, I think it's the only Sonata for the left hand apart from Reinecke's.
So now it's only the funding of the project that needs to get going (and musically: finding the best order in which to put the separate pieces...).
