Immanuel Liebich, HELP NEEDED

Post by musical-md »

Hello,
I'm trying to find biographical information on this composer, but am not finding anything. All I know is that he flourished c.1860. Can anyone provide help? He might be listed in a 1st or 2nd edition of Grove's, but I have no access to same. Thanks for any help.

He is not in the latest edition of Grove to my knowledge, but I do have one of his pieces...

Nor is he in the 3rd edition, which I was able to check. The Smallwood version is a simplified (and transposed) version. The original may be purchased from the Australian National Library.

You will find some information here on this genealogical page, in response to a question by one of his offspring.

Here is an article after a concert in London where he played the Musical Box mentioned above, with much success:

I also saw through Google that he was always looking for piano pupils, filed several patent applications relative to piano, and was declared in bankruptcy.
His son Franz Liebich was also a pianist and composer. He seems to have been among the first ones to play some of Debussy's works in London.
