Is 1. Franck? - usually the pun would be 'frank and earnest'...
Is 9. Bax? Unless there is a composer called Backup or Bacup?

Probably not :(
I'm no good at crosswords either...

So far, all correct!

As normal crossword clues also give the lengths of the words,
perhaps these should be included.

2. bacterium (5 letters)
7. inflamed (3)
10. only just requires to pay back (7)

Spohr? I don't have the last two from set 2 yet.

Moats-art in Set 3 is excruciating, but so are most of the other puns... For the rest:

2. Shoe-man
3. Borrow-din
6. Offenbach
7. Nono (Nanette?)
8. God-OW!-ski

Keep 'em coming, Tim!

As we seem to have drifted seemlessly from Set2 to Set3,
I'd better give the answers to the ones left from Set2.

2.Spohr (spore) was indeed correct.
The others were:-
7.Sor (saw)
10.Berlioz (barely owes)

From Set3,
8.Godowski (God off ski)
was the pronunciation I had in mind.

Wait! Wait! For the bacterium clue, isn't there a composer whose name sounds like E Coli?
