Well done Brian. Here's another one. This time all I need
is the composer of each. Everything is anglicized this time.

2. A nomad's reason. (5,3,5)
3. Noisy gem pest. (5,2,5)
4. Ah, no! (4)
5. So male! (6)
6. A halo and mildness. (6,3,7)
7. And add visual. (4,3,5)
8. Splutter phase.(3,4,6)
9. Became cheats. (3,9)
10.Quote fee, bash hen. (3,5,2,5)

1. Hah, git! (6) Hagith by Karol Szymanowski
2. A nomad's reason. (5,3,5) Moses und Aron by Arnold Schoenberg
3. Noisy gem pest. (5,2,5) Mose in Egitto By Gioacchino Rossini
4. Ah, no! (4) Noah by Michael Sahl & Eric Salzman OR Noah by Wendy Carlos
5. So male! (6) Salome by Richard Strauss
6. A halo and mildness. (6,3,7) Samson et Dalila by Camille Saint-Saens
7. And add visual. (4,3,5) Saul and David by Carl Nielsen
8. Splutter phase.(3,4,6) The Last Supper by Harrison Birtwistle
9. Became cheats. (3,9) Die Maccabäer by Anton Rubinstein
10.Quote fee, bash hen. (3,5,2,5) La Reine du Saba by Charles Gounod

I believe that there is no truth in the rumour that after the premiere of "The Last Supper" by Harrison Birtwistle the effects of the dissonances caused mass diarrhoea or food poisoning.

that was quite a pleasant interlude between nasty quizzes Tim, thank you

Very good again Brian - after the previous tricky two quizzes,
I thought I'd lower the bar somewhat for some light relief.

Btw, I got the Bette Midler, answer just as Parag was posting it.
I would probably have clued it thus:-
1. Tie trembled. (5,6)

Tim enjoys teasing the anagrammers with fiendish quizzes so I thought it about time revenge was visited upon him and here it is.
The ten anagrams are names of Symphonies and all from known composers. Sometimes composers give a title with Symphony in the title such as Honegger with his Symphonie Liturgique or Messiaen with his Turangalila Symphony more often we see Mozart Symphony No.41 "Jupiter". Here you will find examples of both.
So obviously I am looking for the symphonic title and the composer. Good luck and long may you be frustrated.
All but one of the names are in English, the odd one out is in French.

1. Amaze no less (3,8)
2. Win crusted dig (6,7)
3. Princes hot thin gait (1,5,2,3,7)
4. I move on date (1,10)
5. I bungle I-sex in hat (16)
6. Video theme pin (3.6.4)
7. Stiff mayor (5,2,3)
8. Neon ghost fight (4,2,3,5)
9. Lent a blue dress train (4,3,7,5)
10. Nico trains a fanatic (8,10)

It would be nice if more than just Tim have a go, we are at this moment more like Hamilton and Rosberg!
cheers
Brian

OMG, revenge time!

Well, I'd better get the ball rolling.

1. Chaminade, Les Amazones.
2. Goldmark, Rustic Wedding.
3. Gottschalk, A Night in the Tropics.
4. Gottschalk, A Montevideo.
5. Nielsen, (The) Inextinguishable.
6. Sciabin, The Divine Poem.
7. Shostakovich, (The) First of May.
8. Mahler, Song of the Night.
10.Vaughan Williams, Sinfonia Antar(c)tica.

I've used brackets for possible variants.

Very good and very quick Tim, I never knew Mahler wrote a Symphony called Song of the Night! Did you think of Das Lied von der Erde and mix up the two? Anyway I had a different composer in mind so see if you can find him. Good luck with No.9 that really is a nasty one.

No confusion over the nickname of Mahler's Symphony No7,
which is my favourite Mahler symphony by miles. However,
the nickname is regarded as unofficial, so I should perhaps
have mentioned Szymanowski's Symphony No3 (which has
the same nickname) instead.

https://www.britannica.com/topic/Song-of-the-Night

The remaining clue is tough, partly because B is the 'rarest'
letter it uses (worth 3pts. in Scrabble). All the rest are worth
only 1pt. in Scrabble apart from the D, which is worth 2pts.

Anyway, I've enjoyed the quiz, but cracking this last clue may
require a hint.

Cheers, Tim.

A hint... the first letter of the composer's name is alphabetically in the right place, between an S and a V, so that should narrow the field down a bit. Musically this composer is noted for quite extreme use of dissonance, so not from the time of Haydn etc.
hehe revenge is sweet!!!

When all else failed, I took a look at these lists:-

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_s ... with_names

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_c ... ric_titles

But No.9 doesn't seem to appear on either of these lists either,
but they do both back up my Mahler/Szymanowski answer.

the title of the symphony begins with the word True, this should help with the anagram.
