I hope that
3 is Bernstein (pretty sure)
4 is Lully (definitely)
6 is Goria (definitely)

I will have a look at the others later though hopefully Rob will have solved the others by then

I think some people's minds just do not naturally work that way. Of course, like many things, it can be a learnt skill - a degree of intelligence is of course necessary, but is not the sole deteminant! I hope I am proof of that!

No chance. Either they jump out at me, or they don't.

Yep chaps, so far so good - but please remember the health warning.
Rob - that clue was one of the more cryptic ones, so don't worry about
not 'seeing' it immediately.
Brian - I prefer 'coffee' in my Prokofiev, and the slight doubt over
Bernstein (burns tine) had me doubting myself.

That just leaves Nos. 2, 5 and 10.
Think English, French and Austrian. (They could (in theory) have met each other during the years 1901 to 1911.)

10 is Gruber - there are several, but the maddest is Heinz Karl!

I thought I'd have a go at making a Tim-type quiz.
Some are very easy, others not so.
All are (I think) of one nationality:

1 An associate of Jesus (7)
2 Breakfast (3)
3 Overcooked breakfast (7)
4 Stream NOT (8)
5 More maize than precious quip (8)
6 Copulates (5)
7 Wild dog (4)
8 Not a rural dweller (8)
9 Yaaaay! (4)
10 Tick (4)
11 Before the despatcher (6)
12 Karl? (4)
13 Sixty minutes (5)

And for those that are superstitious and have some linguistic ability:
14 Black and naked (6)

Brian cannot take part since I consulted him and suggested I go ahead.
This is my first ever attempt at this sort of thing.

Aha! Looks like the pressure's on me now!
Anyway, just to tidy things up, everything was correct with the exception
of No.10, for which the intended answer was Mahler (marl her).
Thanks again to everyone who joined in.

In the new quiz, are all Austro-Hungarians perhaps?
5 Korngold
6 Fuchs
7 Wolf
13 Auer
