Sounds like another candidate, Jim. However, without actually
seeing the score (it's blocked on IMSLP), one can't be certain.

Here's the Handel I had in mind. The book it's from (ca.1830)
rather splendidly gives all the tempi in pendulum inches. Who
needs metronomes anyway - ghastly unmusical things. I hate 'em!

are various other examples out there also, but actually
thinking of them isn't that easy.
