Bach Chorale Preludes

Post by burstroman »

Hi,
I've begun learning "Ich ruf zu dir...., my first Bach Busoni transcription. Does anyone have any general guidelines, advice, helps on the interpretation and performance of this chorale and others? Thank you for any comments.

I learned this piece over 10 years ago and it is still one of my favourite pieces.

I'm no expert, but for me it's important that the melody really sings as much as possible. I guess Busoni's transcriptions of this nature also call for a solid sonority where you put your weight behind the keys for a full and resonant texture. My preference also is not to take the piece too quickly, as the pathos of the transcription is lost if played too fast.

But these are just my amateur comments. Others here will have more useful feedback.

Enjoy!
