John Kersey - recordings of rare piano music

Post by 4candles »

I don't know whether this deserves it's own topic, but I thought I would try it out... (Moderators will know best!)

Many of you will know of the Henselt Library of rare music, but those who aren't familiar with this resource (newcomers to PP, for example) may also be interested to know that a historian, musician and educationalist by the name of John Kersey, whom I first came across through the aforementioned Library, has recorded many rare works for piano in his 'Romantic Discoveries' series, among them works by Eduard Schütt, August Winding, Hugo Kaun, Stefano Golinelli and three discs so far of Sonatas and other works by Eduard Franck!

It is perhaps true to say that the recording quality of some of these pieces is not top-notch, but if no-one has already done so, I think he deserves a mention for bringing to our attentive ears those works by composers now all-but-forgotten in the mainstream world of classical music.
