Orchestral transcriptions of keyboard works

Post by kh0815 »

You'll find a link here to download a recording of a really nice orchestra transcription of Franz Schubert's 4H Fantasie f minor D940, transcriber: Willem van Otterloo, husband of pianist Elly Ney. Please give me some days.

I have taken an mp3 from the radio which I'd like to cut for your convenience. The German text is too long. Is there anyone to recommend my a (free) program simple enough for a PC Methusalem of the last century like I am?

WvO was a much loved conductor of both the Melbourne and Sydney Symphony orchestras for many years.

See http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?q2g4qnznzkj with Netherland's Radio Chamber Orchestra conducted by Thierry Fischer.
WDR Radio commentary says that there is another version by Felix Mottl (late 19th century).

I finally managed it with the rather simple (and free) help of mp3DirectCut.

I'd like to share two orchestrations for Rachmaninoff's infamous Prelude Op. 3 No 2.
Orchestrated by Leopold Stokowski and by Sir Henry Wood, both of them adepts of grand orchestration.

Stokowski has the following instrumentation : 4,3,eh,3Acl,bcl,3,cb – 8,4,4,1– timp, 4perc (vibraharp, chimes,cym,gong,bd), cel–hp–str.
Wood has the following instrumentation : 3, 2, eh, 2, bcl, 2, cbn - 4,3,3,2 - timp, 2perc , hp, org, str.

There is one orchestration by Lucien Cailliet as well, but I do not have the CD unfortunately.

Thank you so much for the Schubert. I hadn't known this existed.

One of my personal favourites from Claude Debussy is the piano work "La Soiree dans Grenade" (Night in Grenada).
I know 2 orchestrations for this composition : by Leopold Stokowski and by Henri Busser.
