Music for String Orchestra

Post by caostotale »

I couldn't decide upon one of the existent categories and I didn't want to mix this in with chamber music (as a string orchestra most certainly requires a hall :? ). Anyhow, I may have a few more works for this setting in the pipeline, so I'll make use of the new topic.

Alexandre TANSMAN

Thank you Caostotale for this and your other new files. Never again
will the name Barber automatically spring to mind following the phrase
'Adagio for Strings'!

Another beautiful and moving adagio for strings, which predates Barber, is that of Guillaume Lekeu.

Here's a string symphony by a Tajik composer who studied under Vladimir Fere (a Russian who spent his career teaching and composing in Kyrgyzstan). I've not seen any other scores by this composer, but like many of that region's composers, his output runs the gamut. For piano, there is a sonata, a set of preludes, and a set of variations. Additionally, he's penned at least one string quartet and a 'polyphonic' piano trio. Biographical details can be seen at:

Here's another work from Central Asia. A very rare recording of it can be downloaded at:
