Rob has kindly informed me that the world premiere of Stanford's Violin Concerto No.2 in G minor Op.162
is going to take place in Durham on March 2nd. Apparently, it is a substantial work, full of rich and memorable
tunes, which has been orchestrated by his biographer, Jeremy Dibble. Personally, as a lover of music with rich
and memorable tunes, and also as Stanford's number one fan, I can't get hold of a commercially produced CD
of the work quickly enough!

Here's a reduction of one of Milhaud's lesser-known violin concerti, the Concert Royal, op. 373. I don't know much about this work, but it appears to have been composed for the Queen Elizabeth International Music Competition in Belgium. The ambitious (and well-moneyed) enthusiast can find a recording on this CD set:

http://www.cmireb.be/en/p/38/153/165/coffret12.html

This is Milhaud's third violin concerto, composed during his time at Mills College. He followed it with one last violin/orchestra piece called Music for Boston, op. 414 in 1965.

Sibley seems to have a thing about violin concerti....

Note the Bortkiewicz, Vladigerov and Nielsen, amongst others...
