Violin Concerti

Post by rob »

Do we really not have a Violin Concerto thread yet?

Here's an oddity: an early Beethoven Violin Concerto left in fragmentary form and completed by J Hellmesberger. Gidon Kremer recorded a completion of the same piece by Wilfried Fischer, which seems a slightly more interesting completion.
Beethoven WoO5 Violin Concerto C 1790-92 cpted Hellmesberger (vln+pno+part).pdf
Completions of this sort almost always seem worthwhile to my mind, displaying an enormous amount of care, love and understanding quite as much as scholarly erudition. This is a fairly minor example I suppose but interesting nonetheless.
